Five things to know.
Americano is the format most UK padel clubs use for their weekly social night. It works for 4 or 40 players, mixes abilities without one-sidedness, and finishes on a fixed schedule. The scoring is individual — every player has their own final rank at the end.
- Everyone plays with everyone — partners rotate every round, so no one is stuck with the same partner all night.
- Individual scoring, not team — each player carries their own point total across the whole event. Highest individual points wins.
- Fixed round length — most clubs play to a target (24 or 32 points per round) or a fixed number of games; whichever finishes first, everyone rotates.
- Player counts in fours — 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 all work. One court runs 4 players; two courts run 8; scale from there.
- Social by design — mixed abilities play together and the winner is decided by who plays best across the whole night, not who got the best partner.
How to run an Americano night.

01 — Pick the format
point target, fixed games, or timed.
Most clubs use a point-target round (first to 24 or 32 points wins the round). This makes round lengths predictable — around 10-12 minutes each — so you can fit a fixed number of rounds into a two-hour club night. Fixed-games rounds (e.g. 6 games total) also work but are harder to predict.
- Point target (24 or 32) — predictable round length
- Fixed-games rounds — closer to normal padel scoring
- Timed rounds — cap by clock for very fixed-length nights

02 — Open signups
members and guests, with entry fee in-app.
Open the event to your club members and, optionally, to guests. Members see it in their app; guests can join via a shared link without a membership sign-up. Set an entry fee (typically £5-£10 per player) and payment is collected in-app through Stripe, straight to your club's bank account. No cash on the night.
- Signup opens to members and (optionally) guests
- In-app Stripe entry-fee collection
- Automatic waitlist if the night fills

03 — Rotate partners each round
every player pairs with every other player.
This is where Americano gets fiddly on paper. With 8 players you need to generate 7 rounds of partnerships so that everyone plays with everyone once. Grex Social generates the full rotation the moment the signup list is finalised — no manual grid-drawing, no re-doing it when a player drops out on the day.
- Auto-generated partnership rotation for every player count
- Fair sit-out rotation for uneven numbers
- Handles late-drops without restarting the rotation

04 — Score from the court, rank at the end
individual scoring, live leaderboard.
Each round's scores are entered in-app from the court — winner enters, loser confirms, standings update instantly. Every player's individual point total accumulates across all rounds. When the last round finishes, the top of the leaderboard is the night's winner — no separate results calculation.
- Score entry from any phone; opponent confirmation is one tap
- Live individual standings update per round
- Final rank published to all players when the night closes
Under the hood
What Grex Social gives you.
- Automatic partner rotation — Grex Social generates every round's partnerships so everyone plays with everyone. No re-drawing by hand between rounds.
- Live individual standings — the leaderboard updates every time a round's scores are entered, so players always know where they stand.
- Configurable round targets — set the round to end at a point target (24 or 32), a game target, or a time limit. Whichever your club prefers, once it's set the software handles it.
- Score entry from the court — players enter round scores on their phone; opponent confirmation is a single tap. No organiser transcribing paper sheets.
- Handles 4 to 32 players per event — one court or eight, singles-format Americano nights or big multi-court socials.
- Player pool auto-picks starters — for uneven numbers (e.g. 6 players on one court), Grex Social rotates the sit-out fairly so no one loses more rounds than anyone else.
- Bring-a-guest friendly — non-members can join a single Americano night without a club-membership sign-up, useful for open-invite social nights.
- Works alongside Mexicano and King of the Court — same event engine runs all three padel-social formats; switch between them per event.
- Payments in-app — collect the £5-£10 entry fee per player through Stripe, direct to your club's bank account. No cash on the night, no reconciliation.
- Automatic reminder push and email — signed-up players get reminders on the day and an hour before.
- Rolling series scoring — link a season of Americano nights into a Championship, so a regular attender ends up with a season-total ranking.
- Free for players, £39-£69/mo for clubs — the Club plan covers all your Americano nights plus the rest of Grex Social's competitions.
FAQ
Common questions.
What is an Americano padel format?
Americano is a social padel format where partners rotate every round. Each player is paired with a new partner for every round, so across the night everyone plays with (and against) everyone. Points are scored individually — you take your own point total to the next round rather than sticking with a team. The player with the highest individual total at the end wins. It's the most popular social padel format in the UK because it works for mixed abilities and mixed groups.
How many players do you need for Americano padel?
Americano works with 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 players — any multiple of 4 for one court, then scale up per court. Four players on one court is the simplest setup; eight players across two courts is the most common club-night format. Grex Social handles up to 32 players in a single Americano event, with automatic partner rotation regardless of court count.
How does the scoring work in Americano?
Each player accumulates points as an individual across every round. If you win a round 24-16, you add 24 to your total, and your opponents each add 16 to theirs. Your partner also gets 24 (they won with you), but next round they'll have a different partner. After all rounds are played, the player with the highest total points wins the night. There's no team result — every player has their own final score.
How long is a round in Americano?
Two common options: **point target** (play until one team reaches 24 or 32 points; scores are cumulative game-scoring like a normal padel game, so a round takes about 10-12 minutes) or **fixed games** (play a set number of games, e.g. 6 games total). Point-target rounds fit better into a fixed club-night length because you can predict how many rounds will finish in the time. Grex Social lets you configure either per event.
What's the difference between Americano and Mexicano padel?
Americano rotates partners round-by-round, but the courts stay the same — you play whoever you're paired with regardless of skill. Mexicano re-groups players by their current individual score after each round: the top four go to Court 1, next four to Court 2, and so on. Mexicano keeps the matches more competitive because you always play at your level; Americano is purely social. Grex Social supports both formats.
How do you handle uneven player numbers?
For player counts that don't divide evenly (e.g. 6 players on one court, or 10 across two courts), one or two players sit out each round. Grex Social's player pool feature rotates the sit-outs fairly so no one loses more rounds than anyone else — this is the fiddly bit clubs get wrong when running Americano on a spreadsheet.
Is Americano suitable for mixed-ability groups?
Yes — that's the format's biggest strength. Because partners rotate every round, a stronger player doesn't ride a weaker one to a false result. Over the whole night the best player usually wins because they contribute the most points across many different partnerships, not because they got the best partner. This is why Americano works well as a club social night where regulars and beginners mix.
How is Americano different from a regular padel tournament?
A regular tournament is a fixed bracket (or round-robin) with team results — you and your partner win or lose together, and one pair takes the title. Americano is individual, format-agnostic on results, and every player has their own final rank. It's much more social, easier to organise on a weekday evening, and better suited to non-serious league play.
How much does it cost to run an Americano night on Grex Social?
Grex Social is free for players and £39-£69/month for the club (Club and Club+ plans include a 30-day free trial). There's no per-event fee. Player entry fees for a night (typically £5-£10 per player) are collected in-app through Stripe and paid straight to the club's bank account.
Can players sign up for an Americano night without joining the club?
Yes, on Grex Social — you can open an event to guests as well as members. Useful for club open-invite social nights where you want to attract prospective members. Guests pay the entry fee in-app just like members do.
What software do padel clubs use to run Americano nights?
Options include Grex Social (all-in-one club platform with Americano built in), Padel Fast (competition-only tool), Padelboard (competition-only, part of MATCHi), and manual spreadsheets. The main difference is that Grex Social handles the whole event — signups, payments, member communications, live scoring, series rankings — as one system, whereas the competition-only tools cover just the on-the-night rotation and require you to run signups and payments elsewhere.
Ready to run your first Americano night?
